Letter To The Editor 3 Essay

601 words - 3 pages

English Christmas Composition
Dear Editor,

This letter is in response to movie stars staging extravagant weddings.

Nowadays, many movie stars stage extravagant weddings, weddings that have sky-high cost. I do agree that the money “spent” could be put to better use. If the movie stars cut their expenses and rain millions on different charities, I am sure the wedding would just be as beautiful and memorable compared to hosting a billion-dollar wedding banquet. I will explain my reasons below.

A compassionate heart could compose a memorable wedding. In order to make something to be memorable, that incident has to be unique / special so that everyone would remember. In countries like China, a few million dollars would be able to construct a simple school or an organization. The bride and groom could have a picture in front of the ...view middle of the document...

Many years after the wedding, when someone asks the stars what made their wedding memorable, the stars that choose to take the “short-term path” would probably be dumbfounded, as they most likely would not be able to remember the 100kg shark fin they ordered for their wedding. However, those who took the “Long-term” path will surely remember as they not only changed themselves, they gave the needy a chance in life.

Simple is beauty. I am sure that many have heard of this phrase before. Indeed, a simple wedding could also be beautiful. Some may conclude magnificent sceneries that cost millions to rent are the venues where stars should stage their weddings. I have to say the same effect could be achieved by renting a cheap courtyard in the countryside. The difference may not be significant, however the cost can differ millions. Instead on using millions to decorate a pavement with expensive flowers, I think it would be more sensible and realistic to donate it to charity. The funds will give a chance for each child/person to blossom, people that are not as fortunate will have the chance to live life and acquire necessities to continue on their journey. Many useful flowers may thus be created and benefit the society.

All in all, I disagree with movie stars/celebrities staging extravagant weddings just to satisfy their lust. If they put their money to better use, they could do a lot more for this world. When one can bring joy to hundreds by just having a simpler wedding, I do not see a reason for why they should give up this opportunity just to make the lives of others better. After all, money is only a temporary good, once its spent, its gone. Happy memories on the other hand, stay with you forever.

“ A good deed is never lost. He who sows courtesy, reaps friendship; he who plants kindness, gathers love; pleasure bestowed on a grateful mind was never sterile, but generally gratitude begets reward.” – St. Basil
