Life Coaching In The Time Of Need

By James Flowers

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and extend my knowledge and professional expertise to assist you. Our principal asked me to be your mentor for the next couple of months. It is my understanding that you were administratively placed at this elementary school due to some professional issues at your previous school. I know that you have only been teaching for 2 months and thus I would like to help you in any areas that need to be strengthened. Teaching is a challenging career. When you begin teaching, you feel as though all you need to do is to stand up in the ...view middle of the document...

I will also be observing your classroom teaching style and your interactions with students. During your breaks and lunch and before and after school, I would also like to observe your interactions with the administrative staff, fellow teachers, and even parents. I will often take copious notes about everything that I observe. Then later in the week, we can conference about my observations. Of course you are always more than willing to ask for my assistance or professional advice during any of the observations. Additionally, please feel free to ask any questions during the post observation conferences. I will provide you with a detailed analysis of your strengths, weaknesses, and areas that need to be specifically targeted for improvement with the next steps. I will always be supportive and positive and never negative nor condescending.

Do not worry and focus on the issues at your previous school: your inabilities to control the students, your lack of classroom management, the dislike by the parents, your non supportive principal, the rude and disrespectful teachers. I know that you were truly on the verge of a nervous breakdown. You can learn from those past mistakes and move forward. You have begun a new journey with me.

The main goal of my mentoring is to assist you in gaining greater self confidence in your own abilities and enhance them as well. I am sure that you have a plethora of strengths and some that you may not even be aware of. Gaining additional self confidence is important because you will always feel like you can handle any situation. You will feel more like an expert and an authority in your classroom and chosen profession. Even if you intrinsically feel like you are not succeeding on some days, as long as you project an outward confident attitude, then you will always appear to be at your best.

The goal as mentioned previously is to increase self confidence....
