Lifespan Development and Personality
Early childhood development can be affected by a number of factors, and it is impossible to underestimate the immense importance of the early development of children.
Erik Erikson's stage theory of psychosocial development contributed to the understanding of personality development throughout the lifespan. The lifespan development of human being involves the psychological and genetic alterations from the birth and end of the life. The progress of life is highly influenced by the hereditary and environmental ...view middle of the document...
Another factor associated with the physical development of middle childhood is the environment. For an effective physical development of a child, availability, and accession to the internal as well as external environment is necessary. By getting involved in the outdoor activities, children get attracted toward the outdoor activities, which enhance their gross motor skills. For instance, the orientation of the child towards the physical activities is highly related to the environmental constraints.
The phase of cognitive development of a human being during the childhood stage involves the development of problem solving, idea learning, and decision making, understanding and remembering the thoughts acquired from the surroundings. A factor that affects the cognitive development of human beings during the middle childhood stage is Intelligence. The mental stimuli of a human being differ, which maintains different intelligence levels and is affected by the mental status of the parents. Any kind of mental disorders can be transferred to the children through genes, which affects the intelligence level (Stevenson, 2006). The language learning capability is genetically transferred among the people. It is also affected by the environment because of the cultural differences and value system (Carpenter & Huffman). Piaget has explained that the cognitive development of human beings takes place in a well-defined manner through different stages of learning. The pattern of learning differs among the children, which is different due to the analysis capability and speed of learning (Carpenter & Huffman).
These factors play an important role in the cognitive development of human beings. Loving and caring environment provided by the parents develops the cognition of the child regarding the education aspects. “According to Piaget, all children progress through four stages of cognitive development: the sensor motor stage, the preoperational stage, the concrete operational stage, and the formal operational stage. As they progress through these stages, children acquire progressively more sophisticated ways of thinking” (Carpenter & Huffman, 2010). At the middle childhood stage, children learn the living etiquettes and get bound toward following a specified routine. The attention of the children with learning, reading, lying, talking, and engaging in the household tasks is increased. The cognition of children toward real happenings and philosophies are developed significantly (Sternberg & Grigorenko, 2001).
The phase of social, moral, and personality development involves the constitution of the beliefs, behavior, attitudes, personal values, and drives. The environment in which the person grows has a superior influence on the personality development and acquiring social as well as moral values. The perspective of the individual gets developed with respect to the social environment. The factors that affect the social, moral, and personality...
