Love Who You Are Essay

1220 words - 5 pages

I am unwritten, can’t read my mind, I’m undefined
I’m just beginning, the pen’s in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

The reason that I chose this song to do was because I feel like it is one of the most inspiring and uplifting songs out there. It has such a great message that everybody should live by. Personally, I feel like it means that life doesn’t have to stop after one bad thing happens. You need to keep living your life the way that you want to live it, and you are the only one who has control over what happens next. So get out there, and start doing what you love because today is the day that the rest of your life begins.

I really love this song for many reasons. One of the big reasons is that I feel like it has the power to just turn a mood upside down. To me, the lyrics are so powerful and meaningful, and you can’t help but smile after listening to them. I also feel like once you hear this song, you just think that you can achieve anything and it encourages you to start living in the moment. I can’t help but smile and sing along every time I hear this song, and that’s definitely one of my favourite things about it.

Natasha Bedingfield used a lot of different literary devices in this song to make sure that people understood the message that she was trying to get across. One literary device that she used was imagery. This is found in the lyrics:

“Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find”

This is considered imagery because you can literally imagine yourself sitting at a window, with a notebook in your hand, just waiting for something to happen. This was the exact message that Natasha was trying to get across.

Another literary device that was seen a lot throughout these lyrics is a metaphor. An example of this would be in the lyrics “today is where your book begins; the rest is still unwritten.” This is a metaphor because she is comparing your life to a book. She is saying that your life...
