Modern social media sites have affected commerce by reaching a much bigger audience and being able to target specific groups. This also allows consumers to comment on different things and this influences more people to go out and purchase this product too. The social media sites can have a very positive affect if used appropriately. Using media sites for advertising and campaigning as long as it’s done tastefully can influence consumer’s outlook and decisions. These sites can also help family keep in touch and talk to each other frequently as well. However, social media sites can also have the opposite effect as well. This can happen when reporters report negative media or gossip about different things that have been said. Social media sites can also be very dangerous for kids if they are not monitored by their parents. Social media sites have been used to trap younger children into really bad things and also can be very predatorial.
5. How has the Internet changed the way many Americans consume information? Explain the importance and value of the availability of information on the Internet.
American consumers have access to up to date information at all hours of the day and any day of the week. They have access to anything and everything that they have questions about, want to know more information about or just want to read up on. Accessing different information, no longer requires people to go out to the library and check out books or use the computer libraries to access information. This can all be done in the privacy of your own home, at the touch of a button. You can access and get answers and information to anything through any and all of the online sites.
6. How might you determine if information found online is trustworthy? Describe credibility issues with information found on the Internet.
In order to determine if the information found online is trustworthy or not, you simply need to look for a few different things. Who published the website? If you know who publishes the website and they are a well-known company or person, then it’s more than likely a trusted source. What information do they want? If they are asking you for a lot of personal information, then it is probably not a valid website and you should not give them that information. Make sure the site is a secured site and also do your research to see if an unfamiliar site to you has been recommended by and companies, magazines, colleagues or friends.
