Abbreviations or terms associated with the HRIS project have the meanings listed below:
Business process: A collection of related, structured activities or tasks that produce a specific service or product (serve a particular goal)
Cost overrun: Excess of actual cost over budget
Deliverable: Technical or non-technical item to be evaluated.
Deliverable Owner: The individual responsible for a deliverable and initiating the evaluation.
Item: Something documented during a review meeting. It includes recommendations, action items, point clarifications, improvements and suggestions.

Work item sequencing
The integrity and durability of the HRIS project schedule is defined on on how deliverables are organized and identified by the way in which activities should be performed and handled. The following work items are crucial to the successful completion of the HRIS project and should be completed in a sequential fashion. The resources responsible for delivery of the work items are also identified to help ensure the tasks are managed and completed properly.
Work Item: Project Management
Resource: Project Manager (PM)
This work item includes the use of tools, techniques, skills, and task which may be implemented by the project manager to satisfy project requirements identified to complete the project. Some of the activities include plan initiation, developing the project plan, tracking and managing the projects lifecycle.
Work Item: Design
Resources: PM, Human Resources (HR) & Information Technology (IT)
Based on the requirements the PM plans for time, cost and resources required to manage the project. This work item may also include a high-level design on the system and functional requirements.
Work Item: Development & Integration
Resource: IT
Development and integration consist of executing the necessary processes involved in accomplishing the projects requirements. This may include task such as purchasing hardware/software, performing integration testing, and converting or managing data.
Work Item: Acceptance Testing
Resource: Testing Coordinator, Test Team
Acceptance testing is vital in ensuring the project works as suspected. When failures are identified the testing team can implement corrective actions to bring the project into compliance with the project management plan. The variance can be identified with the activities conducted using testing plans or the completion of test reports.
Work Item: Installation
Resource: IT, Operations
Installation activities consists task and processes necessary to implement the HRIS system. The installation activities are managed to ensure potential problems can be identified and corrected, when necessary, to control the implementation of the project. Task in this area can include preparing installation plans for site delivery.
Work Item: Closeout
Resource: PM
The PM is required to get formal acceptance of the project. Several work items include administrative functions such as the archiving files and documenting lessons learned.
Labor resource assignments
