While I’m still not certain of what I want to be, I do know that I have a fascination with business and entrepreneurship. The prospect of being able to start a company and successfully run it excites me. Out of the 7 colleges/schools that Cornell has to offer I think I would be the most successful in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences because they offer a major that I am very interested in, Applied Economics and Management. I like AEM because of its flexible degree requirements, which allow me to supplement my knowledge with the things I happen to enjoy doing. My time at WCC has taught me how to study and how to organize myself. I now know what I want to do as far as a career is concerned as well as what I don’t want to do. I also know what I want from a college; I want that atmosphere of learning that can only be found in select educational institutions while still being able to have fun but without the emphasis being on the latter. When I transfer to a new school, I hope that I will be able to get everything I want from that institution. I also want to be able to spread my wings a little. While I enjoy the sense of security my family has worked hard to create I also feel a need to make it on my own, under my own power. One of the things I hope to also obtain by transferring is a new found sense of pride towards my school and what it has to offer me. I want my family to be proud of my success at my new college. But above all I want to be happy at my new school with my new found sense of self.

This past semester I took a emergency medical technician class. Part of the requirement of this course was to log 16 hours of hands-on work at an ambulance corp. We responded to everything, the simple falls of the elderly (which can be a death sentence) to a 65 year old with a bilateral amputation above the knee, which was infected by MRSA. Seeing people in their greatest time of need was both exhilarating and frightening. You find yourself looking at someone who is having a seizure, the likes of which you have only seen in your textbook and in movies, and you are the only one who can help them. At first this was a frightening prospect but the knowledge I gained made it possible for me to effectively assess and treat the patients while feeling at ease in high stress situations.
