The Negro League CafÃ© located in historical Bronzeville in Chicago Illinois. It is a distinguished African American owned establishment. The cafÃ© recognizes African Americans and the role they played in baseball. The food that is served is also from the Caribbean and the Dominican Republic as well as well as the American soul food. As the white major league the Negro League had their own World Series. Over the years, eleven inter league Black World Series were held. Also, in 1933 the black teams began all-star competition. The game was known as the East West game and played each summer at Chicagoâ€™s Comiskey Park. The game was considered more important than the World Series and annually attracted between 20,000 and 50,000 fans.
The Negro League Cafe is also known for its extraordinary food also representing the black baseball. The menu comes from the West Indies and the all-time great American soul food still demonstrating Black History. Some of the players that played the sport were from the Caribbean and the Dominican Republic. The menu is also a tribute to the Negro League. Some of the burgers are named after players such as, the Hank, â€œThe Lawn Mower Presswood.â€ The Southern Caribbean style food reflects the playerâ€™s roots they traveled to the islands during the winter months. The cafÃ©â€™s buffet was only available after 5:30 pm and on Sunday afternoons. It consisted of entrees such as, rosemary blackened salmon, and jerk rib-eyed steak.
