Sa Tahanan ng Pilosopo

Pagkaraang libutin ni Ibarra, nagsadya ito sa bahay ni Mang Tasyo. Inabutan niya ito ng nagsusulat ng heroglipiko sda wikang Pilipino. Abala ito, kaya ninais niyang huwag ng gambalain ang matanda. Pero napuna nito ng siya ay papanaog na. Pinigilan si Ibarra, Sinbi ni Mang Tasyo na ang sinusulat niya ay hindi mauunawaan ngayon. Ngunit, ang mga susunod na salin- lahi ay maiintidahan ito sapagkat ang mga ito ay higit na matalino at malamang hindi nahihimbing sa panahon ng kanilang mga ninuno.

Sinabi ng binata na kasiyahan na niyang masasabi ang dipagdaing ng bayan. Ito ay hindi naghihrap tulad ng sa isang bansa sapagkat dati – rati tinatangkilik tayo ng relihiyon at ng pamahalaan. Pero, sinabi naman ni Mang Tasyo na pipi ang bayan kaya hindi dumaraing. Katunayan, anya darating ang panahong magliliwanag ang kadiliman at ang mga tinimping buntunghininga’y magsisiklab. Ang Bayan ay maniningil ng pautang at sa gayo’y isusulat sa dugo ang kanyang kasaysayan.
Ipinaliwanag ng binata na ang Pilipinas ay umiibig sa Espanya at alam ng bayan na siya ay tintangkilik. Kaya ang Diyos, ang Gobyerno at ang relihiyon ay di- papayag na sapitin ang araw na sinabi ni Mang Tasyo. Ikinatwiran naman ng matanda na tunay na mainam ang mga balak sa itaas ngunit hindi natutupad sa ibaba dahil sa kasakiman sa yaman at sa kamangmangan ng bayan. Sa palagay niya, ang dahilan ay sapat ang utos ng Hari ay nawawalang silbi sapagakat walang nagpapatupad. Dahil dito, ang aatupagin ng pamahalaan rito kundi ang magpayaman sa loob lamang ng tatlong taong panunukungkulan. Sa puntong ito, napuna ni Mang Tasyo na lumalayo na sila ni ibarra sa usapan. Inungkat muli ni Ibarra ang paghingi niya ng payo. Ang payo ng matanda ay kailangang magyuko muna si Ibarra ng ulo sa mga naghari-harian.
Hindi naatim ni Ibarra ang payo ng matanda at sa halip ayy sunod-sunod na tanong ang kanyang pinakawalan.(1)Kailangan bang magyuko at mapanganyaya? (2)Kailangan bang maapi upang maging mabutiing kriistiyano at parumihin ang budhi upang matupad ang isang layunin? (3)Bakit ako mangangayupapa kung ako ay nakapagtataas ng ulo?
