It’s no secret that online students can face different challenges while pursuing their studies. These challenges can keep students from being successful online students. According to the article “Self-regulation of motivation when learning online: the importance of who, why, and how,” Online students will need to display certain characteristics in order to be a successful. In order to be a successful online student one must learn and maintain motivation to learn. (Cite Article) For this paper I will explore some of the main points of the article, I will reflect on the points of the article, and discuss how to apply some of these points to my own life.

While I did find the content of the article to be informative, a lot of the information provided is information I have heard throughout my academic career. I do know and understand that you have to stay motivated order to be a successful online student. Nevertheless, this article did serve as a reminder that staying motivated throughout my studies will help me to be a successful online student. However along with staying motivated I actually have to put in the effort to study and learn the material in order to be successful online student and to also be successful in my chosen career field after I graduate from Liberty.
Reading this article has made me reflect deeply on how to apply these principles and ideas to my own life. Firstly I will continue to stay motivated and set measurable and obtainable goals to complete my studies at Liberty University. Evidence of how important it is to stay motivated can also be found in the bible. Galatians 6:9 states “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (NIV) If I want to “reap a harvest” (graduate from Liberty) then I cannot become weary and I must keep going. Secondly, other than myself I have a great support system that I can rely on to help me stay focused and motivated. I can also pray and meditate whenever I become too overwhelmed.
