This paper focuses on the organizational behavior and communication of Walt Disney Company. Specifically this paper is going to describe the culture of the organization, noting whether the organization’s espoused values align with its enacted values, the role communication plays in perception and organizational culture, and the role of conflict in group communication. The company follows a strong tradition of innovation. They strive to follow a high standard of excellence and maintain high-quality standards across all product categories. In the community they create positive and inclusive ideas about families and provide entertainment experiences for all generations to share. The company’s storytelling ability is timeless and engaging stories which delight and inspire. Every one of their products tells a story. At the Walt Disney Company, entertainment is about hope, aspiration and positive resolutions. They honor and respect the trust people place in them and their fun is about laughing at their own experiences and their selves. According to Collins & Porras (1996), “The Walt Disney Company’s core values of imagination and wholesomeness stem not from marked requirements but from the founder’s inner belief that imagination and wholesomeness should be nurtured for their own sake.” This Company’s communication within itself is determined by the company’s culture because this company is all about children born with a vivid imagination. The company stays true to its core mission of providing quality entertainment for people around the world.
Espoused Values and Enacted Values
The Walt Disney Company has espoused values as stated previously. These values are the over beings of the company and they are also the company‘s enacted values. If the company however had an espoused value that was not an enacted value it would cause disbelief within the whole company. This Company was founded to bring joy to people of all ages all around the world with its stories and the whole being of the company. If one of any of the previous values were not enacted upon, the employees (cast members) and people all around the world (guests) would be at a loss if anything every changed and the joy of the entertainment was gone.
