Problem Solution: Riordan Manufacturing
External forces for change originate outside the organization. Because these forces have global effects, they may cause an organization to question the essence of what business it is in and the process by which products and services are produced. There are four key external forces for change: demographic characteristics, technological advancements, market changes, and social and political pressures. (Kreitner, Kinicki, 2003). Proper follow-up and feedback requires establishing an informal and formal mechanism by which the sender can check on how the message was interpreted. Feedback makes communication a two-way process. (Kreitner, Kinicki, 2003). The basic to successful management is communication. Even though companies and their managers have had training in this field, no one communicates with employees. They assume employees already know the company’s issues and know how to handle them. Poor communication will not get the company anywhere. Management gets things completed through their employees but with hard work. Most of the time employees do not know how to perform unless directed properly. If there were proper communication with employees there would not be as many problems with performance and responsibilities. Communication is an essential part of every manager’s responsibilities, but many of them are not responsible enough to share information with employees. Education for employees is a necessity within the organization. Performance will be much better if they were informed of the company’s actions and what is going on within the organization. Training is a systematic development of the knowledge and skill pattern required by the person to perform the task that is given to them. Adequate development, training and understanding for employees is growth for the company. There are three things that are necessary within the organization; new and young employees need to be informed in regards to training and development, efficiency standards of performance needs to be raised and legislative requirement need to be met in when it comes to health and safety. The only way for Riordan to achieve its goals, the company must try to motivate the employees first. One of the problems with Riordan is employees not being satisfied with their current job. There are different motivators for different people. Some people might be motivated by receiving a bigger raise, some require a great deal of recognition, promotions, relationships and socializing opportunities and most important, time off from work with no deductions. Something that the organization needs to know is what motivates employees before there is an attempt to try and motivate them.
