Prostitution has always been a worldwide problem for hundred years, especially in Thailand. Thai prostitution is now one of the industries that make millions of money to Thailand in a year. The attention to most of the tourists has been given directly to the nightlife here or prostitution rather than the quality of our own natural attractions such as beaches, mountains, or even a shopping facility in Thailand which is being considered as one of the great shopping paradises in South East Asia. Prostitution is an act of violence and should be banned.
Firstly, Thailand has long had a reputation for its sex trade. Whenever Thailand is mentioned in popular culture in other countries, it is always in reference to prostitution. Almost every time people make jokes using Thailand as a ...view middle of the document...
There are also plenty of cases that parents do not have a choice, but have to sell their daughters to prostitution industry to earn a living. This is an extremely sad situation that there are now more and more children being involved in the sex industry. Being a child is the time in your life when you play, laugh, and have fun. They do not know about the real world yet; they are so young and innocent. A lot of children do it because they need a lot more money, they could not only depend on their families’ income, and they like to work under no pressures as being a sex worker does not require any skill whatsoever. Child prostitution can lead to a very serious problem in the future as those children today are selling their bodies to complete strangers instead of spending their time on school work. This means they are not having any concerns on the education and what would we do in the next generation without educated people.
Lastly, little or none people realize as to the horrors that prostitution can entail in terms of exposure to HIV and AIDS. According to the surveys of sexual behavior, at least 450,000 of Thai men visit prostitutes each day (Hall, n.d.). The proportion of Thai men who visit prostitutes essentially accelerates the spread of the HIV. For instance, family members of unfaithful men who contract aids from prostitutes are in a very high risk of becoming infected with AIDS.
Prostitution should be banned through out the country and they should start promoting other attractions to the tourists rather than prostitution. Also the country should encourage children to focus on their education rather than other factors. This will make Thailand of a better reputation to the foreigners as well as they will be operating in an environment which would be both cleaner and safer. It has got to change, if foreigners are ever going to respect Thailand.
