A2.
There are many advantages to having a custom carpentry business on the web. Gaining more customers by having people see your work online is a big advantage. Demand for wood-work in the form of furniture, decks and patios, or toy chests and keepsake boxes are high in the market. Carpentry has significant growth potential as a home business if an owner is willing to put forth effort in the business process of marketing online.
Current online competition for the type of wood-working products and services that Nioco’s is offering is minimal. Most small, home-based custom wood-working businesses operate through word-of-mouth through friends and family. Online presence is mostly through other social media sites, such as Facebook or wood-working message boards or blogs.
One current competitor found with a website, Indy Crafts, LLC (www.indywoodcrafts.com), does offer the same types of products and services that Nioco’s wants to offer their customers. The website shows photos of past projects, a products page, specifics and ordering page, contact page, and bartering page. The company exhibits a well-detailed explanation of the products offered. The specifics and ordering page contains information on what the customer should expect and how to place their order. The negatives of the website would be the bartering page. If the business is interested in making a profit out of their craft, there would be little need to barter.
Another online competitor within the same area that Nioco’s wishes to serve is Kelly Woodworking (www.custommage.com/by/kellywoodworking/). This website seems to operate under an umbrella organization called CustomMade. “CustomMade is an online marketplace connecting buyers who want one-of-a-kind creations with professional and passionate Makers of those goods.” (CustomMade, 2013) The Kelly Woodworking page shows an “About Us” section, Products section, a link to contact the company and shows the products with ...
