June 20, 2012
Week one discussed three chapters which were managing, the external environment and organizational culture.
In chapter one, we learned about the four key elements that make the current business landscape very different from the one we knew in the past. These are known as globalization, technological change including the development and applications of the Internet, knowledge management and collaboration across organizational boundaries.
Managing in the New Competitive Landscape
We learned that globalization is one of the most important part is any business. Many corporations do business worldwide and globalization helps them interact with other countries worldwide. It helps companies grow. Technology is another part of the ...view middle of the document...
To do so, people must assure themselves they can compete with other competitors, gain advantage so they can also gain profit. Innovation plays a big role because it helps introduce new goods and services to people. Sometimes the most important innovation is not the actual product but the delivery of the product. Quality is the excellence of any product. Management must make sure they give the right service to their customers that is what they want and need, and when they want it. Speed is actually very important as well because some competitors can deliver faster than others can, which will allow the company to lose their customers as well as their business. By keeping cost low, the company will gain customers and profit in the business.
Delivering All Five
To make sure your business is successful you have to be able to deliver everything the right way. You cannot deliver one advantage and assume you will what you are reaching for. All functions of management, Leading, Organizing, Planning, and Controlling are to be correctly established or the organization will not be able to achieve their goals. It could either hurt the business or make the business stronger.
The External Environment and Organizational Culture of Management
In chapter two, we learned the basic characteristics of organization’s environment as well as the importance. We learned about the different types of environment. We learned about the laws and regulations, which is the safety and the health of your employees. Technology plays a big role in today’s business world because it helps create new products, and helps managers learn what the best way is to communicate to become successful. We also went over demographics, which are very important for the manager to know about any of their employees.
