The programs also allow employees the opportunity to work on projects driven by real business priorities. The projects cultivate problem- solving skills and support the development of formal reports and presentations that are aligned with GE’s goals and objectives. Employees also have the opportunity to implement multiple strategies and techniques to ensure the most accurate data is obtained to achieve optimal results throughout the organization. The initiatives and data-driven results of GE and innovative product development have made General Electric a worldwide industry leader. Sears and Kmart stores have suffered from declining sales or most of the 90’s. Kmart emerged from bankruptcy proceedings. In 2004, Edwin Lambert, K-marts Chairman and Sears CEO Alan Lacy, States that "The merger will enable us to manage the businesses of Sears and Kmart to produce a higher return than either company could achieve on its own." Investors agreed. Kmart was up almost 8% to close at $109 a share; Sears was up more than 17% to $52.99. The newly merged companies were expected to have a 55 billion in annual revenue profit and 3500 outlets. The merger is intended to trail only Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Home Depot Inc. Investors agreed. The complementary strengths in products that the stores offer blended to create a better retail experience. In addition, Kmart and Sears were both able to save millions of dollars by streamlining their purchases and offering products to the same customers.The alternative is for Kmart and Sears to continue to provide complementary products to their customers and living to the Kmart’s reputation of having good prices. To rival with the competition preferential locations will offer the best of both stores in a convenient neighborhood location.

The BP oil spill of 2010 was the worst in United States history. Throughout the process, BP worked diligently to maintain the impact of the spill. The spill was contained by removing oil and conducting an offshore dispersement process. The company also implemented strategies to protect the shoreline and remove oil that jeopardized the land (BP, 2011). Although measures were taken to control the spill, the impact of the risk associated with the oil spill was catastrophic. Eleven workers were killed, the oil rig collapsed, and the Gulf Coast suffered tremendous damage (Friedman, 2010). Throughout the process BP’s risk management department received an alarming rate of scrutiny.
