All qualified students throughout the globe are opened to the doors of U.S. educational institutions. The United States is proud of an educational system that attracts variety of students and scholars from the world. As stated in Study in the USA (2013), the USA has the world’s largest international student population, with virtually 700,000 students who want to widen their studying and life experience in America and these numbers are rising. From the mid-1950s, when the number of international student enrollment was only just reaching 35,000, foreign education in the USA has come a long away.
2.2 The advantages
The United States has one of the world’s best education systems, with remarkable programs in almost all fields. According to Michalak (2010), each year, there are more than 600,000 students in Vietnam deciding to learn in the United States. This figure represents a 960% increase in the number of Vietnamese students going to America, compared with 1997. So why do so many international students select to enroll in U.S. colleges and universities?
The first reason is the best quality education system. As stated in New Ocean (2011), at the undergraduate level, excellent programs are taught in traditional subjects, as well as in professional disciplines. At the graduate level, students have the opportunity to work directly with some of the best talents and brilliant professors in their fields of study, with the chance to become relevant to exclusive research and educational occasions. Specially, U.S. degrees are recognized throughout the world for their excellence.
The second reason is the opportunities of research, practical training and access to advanced technology. Many foreign students may be able to acquire valuable knowledge and experience through teaching and researching, especially they are graduate students which they may not gain from their theoretical lectures. There are also many graduate programs offering training and teaching chances for students who become teaching assistants or research assistants to explore different aspects of their studies. Furthermore, universities in the United States are proud of leading the technology, science, and techniques. Students are provided with the best equipment and available resources to conduct research, as well as assemble and process information.
The last reason is the support services for international students. Although learning in America is an interesting experience, U.S. universities and colleges may differ from those in their country in several ways which makes them difficult in adapting quickly. However, nowadays, students and their parents who are extremely interested in studying in the United States will get useful and necessary information from EducationUSA which is a U.S. Department of State-supported network of hundreds of advising centers around the world. According to Michalak (2010), the main mission of EducationUSA is to popularize the U.S. education through providing...
