The Social web is a set of social relations that link people through the worldwide web. The social web encompasses how websites and software are designed and developed in order to support and foster social interactions. These online social interactions form the basis of much online activity including online shopping, gaming, education, and social networking websites. Face book was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and was designed as a social networking site for Harvard students. After spreading from Harvard through the University ranks and down into high school, Face book was opened to the public in 2006. Face book is a place people can go to leave you a message , browse through your photo collections, or even chat with you while you are online. It can be a great way to keep in contact with your friends and family, and even find long lost friends that you have not spoken to in years.

Twitter, what started out as a micro blogging website has quickly grown into a social messaging platform. Twitter is phenomenon that transcends social networking to provide an outlet for news, trends, buzz, and chat among many other users. Twitter can be used to keep up with the news, find jobs, get answers, chat, and micro blogging just to name a few. There are a lot of businesses that use Twitter to stay connected.
A social network for creating social networks, Ning takes the idea of groups to a whole new level. The ability to create your own community makes Ning a great home away from home for organizations and groups looking to fill the social void.

Half of all American adults are now on social networks. A report released by The Pew Internet and American Life Project found that of adults who use the internet, nearly two thirds use social networks such as Face book or Twitter. Online networks are most popular with young adults and women.

Teens these days are well connected with strong majorities having their own email address and cell phone. They spend substantial amounts of time online doing a variety of activities, such as emailing, research, playing games, and using social networking sites. More than half of all online American youths ages 12-17 use online social networking sites, according to a new national survey of teenagers.

Social media is changing the way the world is communicating and according to researchers is expected to continue to impact the way people exchange information. Social media is the means by which individuals are able to exchange text, video, photo, and voice easily via the internet with an individual or pre existing online forums and communities. This is a way faster and easier way to communicate with one another. Over the last couple of years, the web has changed considerably, not only reshaping the technology landscape but affecting also the life of many people.

There are a large number of people that have a Face book page as it is a great way to get in touch with your old friends and to share information about your life with your friends all over the world. While face book reigns as the most popular social media site out there, it does caution it’s users to limit the information they post online as it is accessible by anyone and this can lead to identity theft and many other concerns. There are several pros and cons to face book.
