Someone Who Made A Difference Essay

Someone Who Made a Difference
There is one person that has had a huge impact on my life. He completely changed my perspective. His name is Ali Nourbakhsh. He is a speaker from Rachel’s Challenge. He travels all across the world to present and talk to kids about the Columbine High School shooting in Colorado. I’ve never seen somebody catch so many people’s attention as much as he did. There wasn’t anybody who wasn’t paying attention to him, and most didn’t have a dry eye. He was so inspirational.
On November 16, 2012, I was introduced to Rachel’s Challenge by a guy named Ali Nourbakhsh. He came to Sissonville High School to present the program to the students and teachers and also talk about Rachel and what happened the day of the shooting. The way he presented it was so moving. He made people realize a lot of things about life and how it can end so quickly that you shouldn’t take anything for granted. The ...view middle of the document...

Rachel was one of the nicest people you’d ever meet. If you needed a friend, she’d be there. If you needed help with something, she’d be there. I found it amazing that she stood up to two big guys that were bullying a smaller guy and told them they would have to go through her if they wanted to get to him. From that day on, Rachel and the guy that was being picked on became best friends and even though she was his only friend, it meant something to him because he was planning to attempt suicide.
This program was a huge help to our school. It touched so many people’s lives, and some even changed into a completely different person afterward. They realized how valuable life should be, and how important it is to choose wisely because it can affect your life in so many ways. Every other week, there is a meeting for the challenge and anybody in the school is more than welcome to come. They are trying to make it a better place and prevent bullying and other things related to bullying. There’s no reason to be mean all the time. If you’re going through something, get somebody to talk to that you feel understands you enough to help you through your problems. That is what Rachel’s Challenge is all about. It’s not about who’s the nicest, who’s the smartest, or who can do something better than someone else. It’s about loving who you are as a person, and not judging others just because they are different than you.
I can honestly say I’ve learned a lot from this program. It helped me become a better person, and realize not everybody is the same, nor should they try to be. Ali had my attention from the moment he started speaking, and I will never forget that day. Since then I haven’t been the same person. I’ve tried to see things from other people’s perspective, I’ve put myself in other people’s shoes, I’ve been a shoulder to cry on for many people, and I’ve kept a positive attitude about the most difficult situations. I keep my head up and just think of what’s in store for me when I get older. Knowing I’m in a good state of mind keeps me going every day. It gives me strength to fight for what I want and deserve. Now all there’s left to say is, “I accept Rachel’s Challenge!”
