Strategic planning is critical to the success of any business, especially new emerging ones. “Once a firm has committed itself to a particular strategy, its image and competitive advantages usually are tied to that Strategy”(Pearce & Robinson, 2009, P. 3). Company Vision
Successful companies have a vision of who they are, what makes them successful, and where the company is going. A company’s vision statement tells the customers, employees, and shareholders what direction the company is headed in the future. “A vision statement presents the firm’s strategic intent that focuses the energies and resources of the company on achieving a desirable future” (Pearce & Robinson, 2009). A vision statement is usually for a three to five year period.

Core Values
Values are another important key in designing a strong strategic plan. Core values are the basic principles that guide the decisions of the company as a whole and as individuals, through different strategies and actions. They outline the expected behavior of the collective company and the individuals in its employ while conducting the day-to-day business of the organization. These values set the tone for the company, as they strive to live up to their mission statement, and pursue their vision.
At Bentley IT services, core values are stressed to every employee. The five core values are excellence, initiative, teamwork, shared commitment, and integrity. Excellence is superior performance as seen through the eyes of our customers, employees, and shareholders. Initiative is exhibiting desire for action and being responsive to the needs of clients and employees. Teamwork is working together to achieve results and build positive relationships. Shared commitment is the mutual relationship between Bentley IT Services and its employees based on shared goals, trust, and respect. Integrity is dealing honestly and respectfully with clients, employees, shareholders, and the community; abiding by all laws, regulations, and professional standards.
Guiding the Strategic Direction
