This being in despite of the duke, he secretly arranges her murder,which can be a direct impact on Brownings life and authorship, as he was married in secret, and society in the time of the Renaissance raised many questions on the old basis of morality, hence death seemed as not morally wrong to commit. This action reflects the loss of innocence of the duchess, which has caused her life to be ceased. The duke is therefore responsible for the destruction of innocence, manipulated through the use of the Rhetorical question, proclaiming, ‘A heart-how shall I say? –too soon made glad’.
Williams depicts Blanche, as the source of innocence in his film. Through the leitmotif of Light, we become apparent to the attitude of blanche, trying to fantasize the world, escaping from its reality. This is symbolic of the mind of a child, hence Blanche conveys the idea of Childhood Innocence. Williams authorship cuts straight in here, as he started to write at age 14 as an escape from reality, which influences the representation of Blanche in the film.
