Stuff And Children Exploitation Essay

Child Labour

Look around you. Look at the stuff that you have and the stuff that you’re wearing. Have you ever wondered where they were produced? How they were produced? And most importantly, who produced them? Believe it or not, more than half of the stuff that you have went through the process of child labour. In definition, Child labour is work that is done by children under the age of 15, which restricts or damages a child’s physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual growth. Globally 218 million children are child labourers, and 126 million of these children are engaged in hazardous work. There are three ways that a child can become a child labourer. The first way is when a child inherits a dept carried by his or her parents. The second way is when a child is used as collateral for a loan. The third way is when a child is sold by his or her parents for money. Most of the child workers ...view middle of the document...

Most of these children showed signs of abuse from their employers. The Chinese company used child labour in order to manufacture Olympic merchandize for the Beijing Olympics. These are innocent children who are being robbed of their freedom to work in harsh conditions. This is very immoral and wrong. Child labour is not necessary for economic growth and improvement of standard of living in developing countries.

Child labourers, who work in harsh conditions and get abused by their employers, will live a horrible adulthood. Statistics show that adults who were labourers as children are more likely to be depressed, have a low income, live in the slums, be homeless, and have a very horrible life. These adults are more likely to live a very short life, because statistics also show that their life expectancy would drop by 10 years. When a child does not receive an education, he or she would not be able to learn the skills needed to have a decent life. Most families do not have enough money to send their children to school, so instead their parents make them work to bring money for their family. Children who are in the work force have no protection from harm, and they experience horrible things that a child should never experience. These bad experiences harm the children mentally which can stay with them for the rest of their lives. Most children are employed by immoral employers who abuse them both physically and mentally, which can scar them for the rest of their lives and they may never recover from these horrible abuses. These types of adults would never be able to work and feed their family, so his children would have o work, and so the cycle would continue onto the next generation. The only way to stop the cycle is to give help to these poor families, so that their children would not have to work to take care of their families. It has also been proven that a child, who has been abused and mistreated, will likely grow up to do the same things that have been done to him, to other children. So if a child was abused sexually and physically by an employer, then that child, when he grows up, will abuse a child just the way he was abused when he was a child.
