Test Draft Ph Essay

667 words - 3 pages

The silver logo stood out among assorted bills and circulars in the mailbox. Five weeks had passed since I wrote to Apple about the recurring software malfunction on my laptop. The anticipation and waiting nurtured hopes of an Apple gift card or new software. But. I quickly discerned this was not the form letter sent with a gift card while reading the first few sentences. My disappointment was acute; the only remedy that Apple provided for my software glitch was a sticker in the shape of an apple. If my emotions were charted on a graph, the line would gradually rise then plummet sharply to the x-axis. Although an experience or failure such as this can take a toll on self-confidence, it did not dampen my desire to succeed. The potential for success is fuel for my initiative. I have always viewed risk as an opportunity for success, not a chance for failure.
It was obvious that my confidence in approaching corporate America was not ...view middle of the document...

Our team not only wanted to play our best, but look our best at the big event. So we went online to design an amazing tennis shoe in our team colors, black and yellow with silver accents. We clicked on the cart icon to proceed to checkout and saw the whopping $1680.00 plus shipping. This was so not happening with our limited budget. That's when I had an epiphany; this could be a business opportunity for Adidas. It was a long shot but I was determined to convince Adidas that a team shoe venture would provide their company with low-cost advertising to their target audience. Photos and videos from our team’s appearance at Nationals would be uploaded to the USTA website and also used in promotional materials for tennis programs. All visitors to the USTA website would probably see the ‘mi Adidas’ shoes. I stayed up until 2:00 in the morning to write a compelling proposal to Adidas CEO, Herbert Hainer. Ten days after mailing my letter, I received a call from Jorge Fuenmayor, Adidas Global Market Research Manager. He said Mr. Hainer thought I had an excellent idea. Adidas decided to endorse shoes for all ten players and two coaches! Obtaining Adidas sponsorship was a long shot, but a chance worth taking. While I received a pair of customized shoes just like my team members, the sense of accomplishment and pride from obtaining sponsorship was infinitely more valuable. The lesson learned is that persistence after failure is necessary for eventual success, even when the challenge seems intimidating.
In retrospect, if I had received a response similar to the Apple letter or no response at all, would my resolve waver? I can say with assurance it would not. I know that I would have approached other potential sponsors. Opportunity presents those who are willing to take initiative with the potential reward of success. Failure has not discouraged me; it has inspired me to strive toward my goals. Failure can also be part of the process of achieving success. The Apple experience was a catalyst to confidently engage in endeavors with uncertain outcomes. The chance for potential success has helped to shape my disposition and foster the attributes of optimism, initiative and persistence.
