The Beach, Objective: Go To Public Place And Write Present Tense Obvervation Essay

540 words - 3 pages

I make my arrival to the beach. The sun is scorching. It feels like it must be 110 degrees but the news said it was 87. I make my very first step off the ledge into the silkysand to feel thousands, maybe even millions, of pearl white shells and particles sand squeeze through my toes covering my feet in its residue. I set up my beach towel and sitdown to admire the beauty of the beach around me. The moment I do the golden silence around is broken by a white, orange coast guard helicopter overhead sweeping by. The blades whoosh loudly no more than 200 feet above my head. A small mist of sand stirs up as the helicopter makes its way down the ...view middle of the document...

After a few minutes of watchingthis I can tell they are moving ground. I vaguely can see the white water splashing up from the boats wake. By now a few families have moved in on my territory to set up for anexciting day at the beach. I find myself eavesdropping into their conversation to find out that this is their very first time ever being to a beach. I find out more so that they are tourists from Indiana. The parents seem to be enjoying them selves as much as the kids are if not more. They talk about how weird the sand feels and they dart straight in to play in the water together. Those who stayed behind pick up an odd fascination with the menacing seagulls screeching loudly above that I have grown to despise while at the beach. One even startles me and swoops no more than two feet from my face. As I sit back and think about all the things around me I am utterly amazed with all the free gifts mother nature has given me that i often forget about. I must have been to the beach 500 times before and never really sat back to observe all the great things going on around me. Speedboats rocketing through the salt waters. A very large tugboat blast the horn. The people playing sports. The families laughing together that might otherwise never even talk to each other at home. The beach takes on a more sentimental meaning to me. I am reminded of why it a vacation destination for thousands everyday. I go home today with a much greater appreciation of this backyard paradise of mine.
