The Beatles

The Beatles became known as the greatest most influential rock musicians in the world who consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe, and Pete Best. The Beatles influenced society the greatest in the areas of culture and drug use.
The come up of the Beatles’ popularity can be traced to the help of two people; Brian Epstein, their manager, and George Martin, their producer (Berger Cardany). Their relatively long hair was a shocking fashion statement when they came onto the scene in 1964. Long hair was quickly adopted by other rock bands of the time, and by the 1970s, long hair became standard fashion for men (Gloag). The hair styles even led toy manufactures to begin producing "Beatle Wigs"(Mossman). In the early Beatlemania years, the Beatles would occasionally wear grey, collarless suits. These unusual suits eventually became extremely common for new bands after 1964.

The Beatles not only influenced fashion, but also American culture. They were able to prove that rock and roll could also embrace endless variety of harmonies, sounds and structures. They also contributed to the huge group of Baby Boomers. A lot of their later albums carry songs about individuality and rebellion ("Revolution", "Come Together", and "Nowhere Man") (Mossman). This helped them become one of the main figureheads of the cultural revolution in the 1960's surrounding the Vietnam War.
