The Pros And Cons Of Facebook

1552 words - 7 pages

In the past, we had limited options to connect with people. Making a phone call or sending a text message seemed to be the most convenient ways to communicate. However, those ways of communication faced a major problem which is having a big family and a lot of friends. In 2004, 19 years old Harvard student named Mark Zuckerberg came up with an idea. He thought about the best possible way to keep all of his colleges in touch without wasting time and money. His creativity led to owning one of the biggest social media web sites in the world. That web called Facebook. According to Facebook’s most recent annual report, it hast over one billion active users. Not only that but, the company ...view middle of the document...

Facebook expands the idea of similar interest by having a feature called groups. That feature allows people to communicate and share ideas in a larger numbers without the need of being friends. In Facebook, you can find different types of groups with different approaches. That benefits the user. In other words, you can like and share different thoughts with multiple groups of people at the same time. For example, you can be a fan of the show “Breaking Bad” read what is new about it while liking bodybuilding pictures and commenting on a vegan diet plan. In Facebook, you don’t only find new friends but you also get to find and re connect with your old friends. That is amazing, but who is that possible? There is a feature in Facebook called “people you might know”. Those are people that Facebook sorted out because you have a mutual friends, work for the same company or went to the same high school together. Simply, there is nothing better than finding an old friend in a new town. Connecting with people is one of the benefits of Facebook and its one of the reasons why people like it.
Meeting people is always great and I believe Facebook is so popular because it makes shearing so easy and simple. People love shearing weather by witting how they feel, uploading videos or posting pictures. Also, people love for others to share their opinion on their post. For example, a lot of people post pictures of their kids, pets, cloths and new hair styles. They do that just to get attention either by liking the picture or commenting on it. “Facebook revealed in a white paper that its users have uploaded more than 250 billion photos, and are uploading 350 million new photos each day. To put that into perspective that would mean that each of Facebook's 1.15 billion users have uploaded an average of 217 photos apiece.” (SMITH, 2013) Obviously, having features that makes sharing fairly simply is one the most benefits of Facebook.
Another benefit of Facebook is providing a huge opportunity of growth for small businesses. In fact, Facebook is one of the lowest budgets marketing “Marketing activities that would cost thousands of dollars through other channels can be used on Facebook for a fraction of the cost. This makes it ideal for small to medium businesses with a limited marketing budget. Larger businesses can also trial marketing concepts and themes through Facebook before committing to bigger campaigns.” (Queensland, 2014) In my opinion every business must have a Facebook page; otherwise a lot will be missing. Business owner are in need of a lot of creativity in order to get a lot of fans on Facebook. Simple information such as the name, location, history and pictures are needed to start. Then the fans will express their gratitude by liking the page and recommending it to others. “By clearly showcasing a combination of the attractiveness of your goods and services, your customer service and your brands personality and/or USPs, you can use Facebook to...
