People often say that quality is in the eyes of the beholder, but consumers have the final say concerning the quality of an organization. "Quality is a dynamic state associated with products, services, people, processes, and environments that meets or exceeds expectations and helps produce superior value" (Goetsch & Stanley, 2010, p. 5). "When it comes to dealing with customers and what is expected and demanded of them businesspeople say that quality overshadows quantity" (Martin, 2006).
There are a number of factors that customers take into consideration when purchasing a good or service. That factor can be price driven, the reputation of the organization producing the product, or a unique feature that sets a certain product apart from the competitor's product. Organizations are always looking for ways to improve their products because "good enough is never good enough". They are continually improving the quality of their products, services, process, and cost which what quality is all about.
In the future more organizations are going to adapt quality programs to their work environment like six-sigma, lean, iso9000. They will also focus on continues improvement of their employees and their products. Universities will offer masters on quality management programs.
