Overview of the read/write learning style
The read/write learning style mainly makes the use of printed words to receive and convey learning information. Using the style enables one skill to become the input of another through the transfer of the ability to read to that of writing. The skills transfer is integral in raising the awareness of how the structural components involved in learning are shared in both reading and writing modalities (VARK, 2016). * To develop a draft, one has to come up with sub-headings in line with the study item.
* Reading the identified parts from the sources as one note down the concepts in point form or short statements.
* Identification of information that needs acknowledgements like quotes from the authors.
* Developing content from the draft by constructing coherent sentences from the points and statements in the draft using own words.
* After writing is complete, re-reading should be conducted to note grammar mistakes, punctuations, incoherent sentences and understanding the concepts as well.
* Generating a summary regarding the whole written content for a quick reminder.
* Construction of questions in line with concepts that are likely to be forgotten so that a look at them elicits remembrance. Also, one should note the number of paragraph in which the answer is located
Comparison of read/write preferred learning strategies with identified strategies
Like in the above personal strategies for the read/ write learning where sources are sort and selected, the VARK suggested read/ write learning strategies requires a learner to know how to take in information. The preferred VARK strategies for read/write learning require that one uses all or select some of the types of sources that include: Manuals from either laboratory or computing sources or both, essays, from educators who are skilled in providing information in sentences that contain a lot of information and concepts, notes that are often times verbatim, text books, handouts, definitions, headings and lists (VARK, 2016). Making a learnable package is another preferred strategy in the VARK read/write style. It requires that an individual reduces notes with a ration of 3:1 and in so doing; the individual will have converted the notes into a learnable package (Routman, 2014). If compared to the personal strategies listed above, the strategy relates to developing sentences from points and statements derived from the sources.
Other than generating a learning package and identifying intake types, the VARK preferred strategies provide that one should imagine that the notes or lists obtained from intake sources are in multiple choice questions arrangement, and then distinguish the questions from one another.
