Violence in the media has been a growing problem ever since the emergence of mass media. You have to wonder how violence has become so prominent in our culture. More minors are being involved in heinous crimes such as murders and armed robberies. Even play on the school ground is getting rougher. There are many factors that play into the increasing violence, such as over population, religious struggles, and race.
One factor that plays into the increase of violence would be mass media. Mass media has the power to reach and influence almost every American. Radio, newspaper, and television are all means by which media reaches people. Television however, can be considered the most influential. Ninety-eight percent of Americans have a ...view middle of the document...
He cited examples of how easily information about building bombs and guns was to get on the internet. Yes these types of things are easily found on the internet but that is no excuse for putting the blame on the internet.
Children of all ages can just as easily see these things on the television and in movies. I just recently saw on all of the major news channels Momar Khadafis dead body being dragged through the streets of his country by his own people and not one time before they showed that footage on any of the news channels did they pre-empt it by saying the footage they were about to show is gruesome in nature and not suitable for children.
Many of the movies that people watch are centered around action and violence as well.
So to put the blame on the internet is not completely right. Granted the internet is not always the best place for children to be surfing around on, it still boils down to the parents. I teach my children a set of morals that I hope that they will believe in and turn out to be good adults. As the author pointed out in the article parents can regulate what a child looks at on the internet and can also monitor the type of things that they are looking at. Parents can’t be over their childs shoulder at all times so you have to just do the best that you can. Even then I truly believe that some people, even children, just have the desire to be evil no matter what kind of morals you instill in them.
In conclusion it is not my belief that the internet is to blame for violence because there are so many forms of mass media, movies, video games etc. that you can not put the blame soley on one thing.
