Almost everyone in the world has dreams of what they want to be when they grow up, I am no different. I am going to share my story and my plan of setting in motion my dream of what I want to be when I grow up.

Since I could remember I always wanted to be a teacher. As a child I would organize my pretend classroom in our garage where I would play teach geography, choir, and band. My interest in education stayed strong through high school and into college. My first two years of college I majored in music education. Although I enjoyed what I was doing it just did not feel right; because I have had a wide range of interests from science, sociology, and to the arts. There I was able to focus my communication education by emphasizing my major in interpersonal and organizational communication. Also, I was given the opportunity to do an internship worth ten credit hours. For my internship I was able to be a Student Services Intern at the community college I attended before transferring. Being a Student Services Intern I was exposed to admissions and academic advising. I even had the opportunity to help in the Registrar’s Office. During my final week as an intern my onsite internship coordinator, who was the Director of Admissions, and I had our wrap up meeting. I remember reading her evaluation letter. She said that I possessed compassion and a drive to help students succeed. She wrote that I was a great asset and as I continued to grow I would be very successful in the field. Even on a personal note, on my last day as an intern the whole Student Services department threw a going away party for me. Having everyone there I had worked with over the past three months and hearing their feedback and seeing how I contributed to operation was a great sense of accomplishment. Most defiantly, this internship validated my decision and provided me with some fantastic experience.

With graduation drawing near, I was full of vigor when I started my career search. It seemed like I sent out a hundred resumes and letters of interest. However, I got nothing, not even a nibble.
