'Based on the class discussions, readings taken up and your own thoughts, share your views on who is a woman; what constitutes the shaping of womanhood. Try to draw on the oedipal and pre-oedipal developments which choreograph the psychic developments of women. Utilize at least 2 readings for the same.
The strength of women comes from the fact that psychology cannot explain us. Men can be analysed, women ... merely adored.
In fact what is interesting is that all these seem to be the same thing, we listen what is being said right..??
But for a woman, she may never say what she wants to and hear what you want to hear. I think this exactly the thought ...view middle of the document...
They want to have sex with their fathers and get rid of their rival mothers. But when a little girl flirts with Dad, there are usually no strong objections from either Mom or Dad, because the girl is displaying appropriate sex-role behavior, and besides, it’s cute. A daughter can be "Daddy’s girl" throughout her life, whereas a son must stop being Mama’s boy around kindergarten. Thus the little girl never gets the message very strongly that Dad is unavailable to her. Because she never learns even the most primal taboo (incest), the little girl remains morally infantile throughout her life. Her Super-Ego never really develops. Absolute, rigid rules of morality never mean much to her. Note that for Freud this is not only "how things are" but how they _must be; Freud thinks he is describing "human nature", which if it is changeable at all, is changeable only very slowly, through processes of evolution that take millions of years.(1)_
_This feeling of primary hostility gets resolved for a boy child but for a girl child this hostility does not resolve since the love object is the mother for the girl in both the pre oedipal and oedipal stage. The feeling of ambivalence since the girl unlike the boy cannot make a separation of these emotions and transfer the hatred towards the rivalrous father as the same father would soon become her love object.(3)_
_Very honestly I don’t think it has changed much, the difference in the way a man is treated and a woman is treated is made more than obvious and maybe is one of the major reasons for the feeling of inadequacy just stays on, or rather begin in the first place. Maybe these are the reasons why the Woman would look for acceptance, for everything. Acceptance even to be her I would say._
Then the major milestone is the oedipal complex, is when the child is shattered with not being able to get the mother, and starts to identify with the father. But for a girl child this is another test of ambivalence and even though she starts to identify with the mother she _constantly wants to hate as well. I think this is also the reason for the strength of her emotions as well. I think only a woman can love the person she would want to hate. This may also be able to demystify maybe, partly how a woman would still wants to stand by the same man who all this has been abusing her. _
I feel the need to be loved in a woman in way more than in a man, and thus is also the level_ extreme tolerance to get that affection. I think to an extent the narissicist tendencies on a child are also carried over to a woman, hence never is enough for her._
As I speak about tolerance I think about the...
