Why not sit all day? Why do organizations and the Canadian Government support healthy active living? Isn’t sitting healthy you sit all day at school, and then when you get home there is that three hours of homework so you end up sitting at a desk doing homework all night. That is a total of six or more hours a day! Well now that we as humans are sitting more than ever recorded researchers have concluded that sitting has an overall toll on your health.
For most or all people in North America you sit in a chair for at least six hours or more a day, and researches have taken that into precaution. Just like the rest of your body your brain depends on strong blood flow, good oxygen flow, and optimal glucose metabolism to work properly. Sitting down disturbs that important flow, and disturbs the sufficient function of the brain. When sitting your skeletal muscle fibers don’t contract, in particular the large muscles of your lower limbs. When that occurs the muscles require less fuel, and the excess glucose compile in your bloodstream and contributes to obesity, diabetes, and the other health problems listed earlier. Sitting reduces the full capacity of our brain and especially in school students are to be able to use their brains capacity, but they cannot when sitting all day.
We as humans average sitting for about 9.3hours a day! That is more than our average sleeping time of 7.7hours a day. If you are not convinced we should stop sitting, you will be now. Sitting six or more hours a day increases your chances of dying in the next fifteen years by forty percent. We should quit sitting it is not good for you at all, besides when your body needs to rest for a couple of minutes. Just think as soon as you sit electrical activity in the leg muscles shut off. Calorie burning drops to a calorie a minute. As well as enzymes that help break down fat drop by ninety percent. After two hours of sitting good cholesterol drops by a total of twenty percent. Finally after 24 hours of sitting your insulin effectiveness drops by twenty four percent and risk of diabetes rises.
We should try to eliminate sitting as much as possible as it worsens your physical health, mental health, and overall function of the human body system. So why is it mandatory that students sit in class and that some jobs are a sedentary occupation? With all of our knowledge is it not time to come up with a solution to terminate sitting? I am in favour of that idea.
